Light she is

I concentrated on the theme of the «portrait-within-space». What particularly interested me was not only the effect of a place on a person but the reciprocal influence that a person may have on the space that surrounds her. At the end of my last year of studies in Tehran,I had to take an examination: The subject was: «The Judgement». On that occasion I displayed photos representing a young woman, unveiled, in a house, under a cupola The consequences were immediate as the Islamic committee found them provoking As a consequence, the committee dismissed me from the University for a week. After being punished for a short time, and then commit myself to discard the current project, which deeply affected me, I was able to pursue my studies. Later, I decided to focus my work on an ancient type of chair called in Iran «The Polish Chair».

Je me suis concentrée sur le thème du portrait-espace. Ce qui m’a particulièrement intéressée c’était non seulement l’effet d’un endroit sur une personne mais l’influence réciproque que peut avoir une personne sur l’espace qui l’entoure. A la fin de ma dernière année d’études à Téhéran, je devais passer une évaluation : « le jugement ». A cette occasion, j’ai exposé des photos représentant une jeune femme non voilée, dans une maison, sous un dôme. La sanction a été immédiate puisque le comité islamique trouva celles-ci provocantes. De ce fait, le comité m’a renvoyée de l’université pour une semaine. Après avoir été brièvement punie, puis m’être engagé à abandonner ce projet en cours, ce qui m’a profondément peinée, j’ai pu poursuivre mes études. J’ai décidé de travailler sur un type de chaise à l’ancienne, appelée en Iran « chaise polonaise ».
